Northern Lake Amphibian Pilots'
Fly-In & Safety Seminar

Program 2006

Friday - Sunday:   Pilots’ Sessions  9:30 to 12:00

SHOP TALK & FLYING FORUM:

Lake experts, Elton Townsend, Harry Shannon and Jim Hodgson will take you through several topics of interest and answer your questions.  These include flying tips and pilot techniques as well as maintenance tips and general mechanical airworthiness discussions.  Part of the forum will include walk-arounds of Buccaneers and Renegades.

Specific topics include:

  • Kevin Psutka, President and CEO of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, will provide an update on seaplane issues, including parks access in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. He will also discuss other issues such as security, the new NAVCAN daily charge (and its potential to be expanded into more general pay-as-you-go fees).
  • A look at egress procedures.  This will be an open discussion forum with some materials provided.  So bring stories to share.
  • Cliff Maine will do a presentation on Risk Management.  This will include a status report on the Lake Insurance Program and the Airsure outlook for the USA, as well as a discussion of the availability of insurance for Lake Amphibians in Canada.  Cliff will also look at other hot topics in Risk Management such as the do's and do not's if you have an accident.
Companion Sessions:  9:30 to 12:00

There will be something for everyone!

  • An artisan from Sudbury will be leading a beaded jewelry workshop.  She'll bring all the raw materials required.  You bring the creativity.
  • Crafts: Bring along your craft ideas.
  • As in the past, manicures and pedicures will be available. This year, massages will be available as well.
  • Book exchange: Along with the usual discussion of our favorite books, we’ll be doing a book exchange again, so bring along any books that you’d like to pass on to others.
Evening events:
  • Ed McNeil will share his findings from a summer of 2006 study of lakes in the Adirondacks.  Ed is spending 2 months this summer with Charlie Canham, on one the world's best forest ecologists, flying into, and studying invasive sensitive lakes. Charlie Canham will join Ed in presenting a summary of what they have learned.
  • Friday Charity Casino night: Featuring Celebrity Pilot Poker (plus instruction for those who need it!); a 50/50 draw, roulette, blackjack, and other casino games.  We are looking for volunteers to assist!
  • Saturday night:  Join Jay Beard in the Carousel lounge for a sing along.  Those of you who are musically inclined (piano, guitar, whatever) are invited to help Jay out.
  • Auction: This year we are going to have a silent auction, so bring along a new item or a used item in good repair.  Proceeds go to various airplane and seaplane associations.
